Biography of Meegan Jesse (singer)

Meegan (Jesse) Hussain moved to the Philadelphia area from the Midwest in 1999 to pursue her passion of performance. She earned her Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance from West Chester University in 2003. She continued her training, earning her Master of Music degree in vocal performance and pedagogy at Westminster Choir College in 2006, studying under Professor (Emeritus) Marvin Keenze.

Meegan has been performing in the United States and overseas in concerts, operas and operettas since high school. After her post-graduate training, Meegan began private and collegiate instruction of singing and piano. In 2011 Meegan felt called to utilize her skills as a musician in order to serve others and began her Master of Music Therapy degree at Immaculata University, becoming a Board-Certified Music Therapist in 2014, and finishing her degree in January 2016. She began her music therapy career working at Einstein Medical Center in an inpatient psychiatric facility, and currently enjoys working as an outpatient music therapist at a nonprofit community mental health center in South Philadelphia. Meegan also continues to teach private students and perform in the Philadelphia area, singing classical, rock and jazz.

Recent performances in Philadelphia and the greater area include: performing with the rock band Fauxtron at Kung Fu Necktie (2019) and at the Trocadero (2018); soloist at the annual Studio Recital of Professor Emeritus Marvin Keenze (2019); featured singer at the “One Voice, Two Expressions” concert with the Haddon Jazz Quartet (2018); performing with the rock band Linus the Moon at World Café Live (2016); soloist/duettist at the Legacy Concert with the Delaware Valley Opera Company (2017, 2016); and soloist at a concert with the Collingswood Consortium of Musicians (2015). Meegan has enjoyed singing operetta and opera with regional companies, such as Aline in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer with the Delaware Ardensingers (2015); Serpina in Pergolesi’s La Serva Padrona with Center Stage Opera Company of Harrisburg, PA (2014); Angelina in Gilbert & Sullivan’s Trial by Jury with the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Chester County (2011 and 2013); Aline in Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Sorcerer with Thespis, Etc. (2010); Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni (2009); Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, (2008); and Bersi in Giordano’s Andrea Chenier (2008) all with the Center Stage Opera Company. Other performances include: Second Spirit in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (2007) in the Intermezzo Young Artist program located in New Port Richey, Florida, and soloist/duettist in the Florence Voice Seminar Concert (2006) in Florence, Italy. Meegan has also enjoyed performing the roles of Lucy in Menotti’s The Telephone and Billie Jo Casta in Schikele’s Oedipus Tex while in music school. Meegan credits her family, friends, and husband for their continued love and support throughout her career.
